Elven Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1 lemon
- ½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- Cold water, to fill
- Sweetener of choice
One-Cup Elven Lemonade!
Having some fairy friends over for your yearly summer BBQ? Look no further! As long as your visitor is a member of the Seelie Court, they’ll love this classic recipe served in Elven homes the world over.
To Seelie fairies, there’s nothing quite like a cup of sunshine on a warm summer day—and this recipe is just that!
Instructions
Juice one lemon. Pour ¼ to ½ of the lemon juice into a water glass and save the rest for another serving, or store it in a jar for later. If it’s a small lemon, you’ll probably want to use about half the juice. If it’s a large lemon, start with about a quarter.
Add ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.
Top with cold water, leaving a little room for your sweetener of choice.
Add your sweetener and stir until everything is well combined for a sweet, crisp lemonade!
Sweeteners
Sugar, agave nectar, and stevia all work wonderfully. Experiment with the sweetness until you find your perfect flavour.
I recommend starting with 1 teaspoon of sugar or agave nectar—or a couple of drops of stevia—and adding more in small amounts until it tastes just right. It’s always easier to add a little more sweetness than to take it away!
Notes
Fairies, particularly elves, are expert fermenters and often add vinegars to their recipes—including, in this strange case, lemonade!
The apple cider vinegar gives this lemonade a distinctive little kick, but you are, of course, welcome to leave it out of your own glass and enjoy the simple taste of sweet lemon instead.
